And a cup of milk would do what exactly to make this dreadful 'meal' adequate?

Love the three slivers of processed cheese food.....

This is another misleading plate that is not reimburseable. The fruits and vegetables must come from two different sources. The chips, if you can read, are baked and half the normal fat content.

If this is a nutrient based meal then this could contain all the nutrients required by the Federal school lunch program.

Another factor is the student may have an offer verses serve option where the student has chosen this meal on their own.

Missing from each of these meals is milk which must be offered on all meals, and make all of the plates shown suspicious and questionable!

In my country, if any child of any public or private school gets "that" for luch , the school probably would be shutted or brougth to charges. (Spain)
  • At least there is an apple. An apple is good fiber which will help with the hunger being held off, but with all the processed carbs in the chips the kid is certainly going to get hungry and crash.
  • ugh!! that makes me shudder. I have a first grader in public school in bklyn. seeing it is worse than hearing about it from him. no wonder he's starving at 3pm.

Thanks for the comment, Bethany! We're looking for more photos of lunches so we can start building some comparisons. If you have any of your first grader's lunch, we'd love to post it.
