I am a Director For a small country school food service program. In no way would this or any of these meals be offered to my students. We are federally regulated, and must provide balanced nutrition. These pictures are absolutely not the normal meals served in schools, if so, shame on them.

Honestly, some of this stuff simply shouldn't be offered. My kids' school offers chocolate milk every day. I assume some children choose the regular milk, but my kids don't. I asked them to please choose regular milk at least once a week. Fortunately my son likes regular milk. Couldn't the school simply offer chocolate milk only once a week - or never?? He's right about what kids choose. Even if they are required to take something, that does not in any way mean they will eat it. They will just throw it away. So the trick is getting them to not only choose the healthy things (don't even have fried, breaded, sugar-laden things on the menu to start with) but actually eat them.

Thank God! Finaly a DISH! The thing that horrifies me the most is all the styrofoam, paper and plastic. Costs more to get, costs more to dispose of. And it's terrible for the environment, and squeaky & chakly to eat off of. :p blech. At least these people have dishes!!

Oh no, we can't possibly be putting such horrible and meager meals in front of kids in public schools, can we? Of course not. Its all a lie. We're better than that. We're not really producing a generation of under-nourished idiots.

Keep telling yourself that.

Perhaps you and yours are doing better, if you're fortunate enough to be among the dwindling middle and upper middle class.

For those who are not, this is what is being handed to children and being called "a meal" in much of America today.

But of course, we're still the greatest country on earth, right?

Right.

Wake up and smell the class warfare.

I'm looking at maybe 350 calories here - including the plastic wrap. Isn't possibly enough enough food, much less nutrition.
